Katie Boin

Georgetown University
Director of Student Outreach and Support

Katie Boin currently serves as the Director of Student Outreach and Support (SOS) in the Division of Student Affairs at Georgetown University.  Ms. Boin was the inaugural Student Affairs Case Manager at Georgetown, and has been in the role since early 2012.  As Chair of the Safety Net/Case Management team, Ms. Boin works closely with campus partners to coordinate triage, follow-up, and monitoring for all Main Campus undergraduate students of concern.  The portfolio of cases managed by this team range from death of a student’s parent to serious suicidality and self-harm.

Following four years as a school counselor in secondary education in the Washington, DC region, Ms. Boin transitioned to work in higher education in 2009.  At that time, she joined the Division of Student Affairs at Georgetown and spent three years as the Academic Coordinator for the Women’s Basketball program, guiding player personal development.  In her role as Case Manager and now as Director of SOS, Ms. Boin’s work is focused on solidifying and streamlining the Georgetown University team approach to provide care to students in distress; this includes a strong partnership with both Threat Assessment and Title IX operations.

Ms. Boin is an active member of the Higher Education Case Managers Association (HECMA), a past member of it’s Standards and Advancement Committee, and a current member of it’s Strategic Operations Committee.  In 2019, she was chosen as one of five national experts in the field, as HECMA worked with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) to publish the very first set of national standards for Case Management Programs and Services.  Ms. Boin has received several acknowledgements for her work at Georgetown, including the Division of Student Affairs’ Ignatian Care Aware in 2013, the “Bridge Builder Award” from the Center for Social Justice in 2017, and Division of Student Affairs’ Magis Award in 2019.  She completed an M.A. in Counseling at Michigan State University in 2005, and graduated cum laude from The College of Wooster in 2003.
